Hi, I'm new to this so hopefully this question makes sense.

I currently have a QNAP TR-004 as DAS (connected via USB to my networked mini-pc). It has four 12TB drives in RAID5 and I have a (remote) smaller backup drive for essentials.

In the future I would like an 8-bay USB DAS in RAID6 but I am struggling to find suitable options for this (at least not for a reasonable cost). Currently the best option seems just to be a second TR-004 as a seperate RAID5 array.

What would be your solution for an 8-bay+ USB connected (to mini-pc) RAID6 array? If the answer is software RAID and dumb enclosure is there any downside to that on an N100 processor and what would be the RAID software to use (win11)?
