A UK-centric Electric Vehicles community, where discussion/news of the wider European continent is welcome.

All discussion of EVs (and hybrids for the moment), charging networks, etc, welcome!

No USA/Americas news unless it is relevant to the UK/Europe - most of the existing EV communities on Lemmy are awash with US discussion, please use one of those. US news and discussion will be removed.

The main "global" EV community is !electricvehicles@slrpnk.net

Several charging points for electric vehicles at a motorway service station still aren’t hooked up to the power network after connection delays.

its usually because the grid connection needs upgrading and crosses various properties, resulting in delays and sometimes court battles. You could argue that its wishful thinking to just put a load of chargers where theres no power and expect the council to roll over.

Leicester Forest East services have chargers, but they're now turned off because there isn't enough power to supply them 🙄

We're shafted aren't we? 😟

Maybe, although I'd never charge at a Motorway Services anyway.

I'm driving from the Midlands to North Wales tomorrow, bit of a charging desert up there, wish me luck 😅

Where abouts in North Wales? There are a few good spots - probably one of the better ones is the open-to-all Tesla Superchargers in Flint, and there's a bank of Instavolts at a farm shop... can't remember the name of the place off hand.

I'm going to Llandudno. It looks a bit better than it used to a couple of years back to be fair.

I'm staying at an AirBnb, so I'm hoping I might be able to be cheeky and use the granny charger (will check with the owner first) 🤣

Yeah, it's a bit dead round there. Looks like there are a few rapids in Rhyl - and a big mostly 7kW hub which might be useful if you spend the day there.
