Hi all, I currently use a HP ProLiant Micro Server Gen8 for the bulk of my storage ~ 80TB, I then access all of this through the network using the device as a dedicated NAS. My issue is that I am now running out of storage and have no additional places to add drives.
I am looking at using an intel Nuc as the brains & networking and then potentially using a DAS to attach the storage. I have done some reading and everything seems to have mixed reviews but I look to be interested in one of the Yottamaster devices (Yottamaster Y-Focus 5 Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure) as they allow daisy chaining which would be a big plus so I can expand as needed without rethinking my setup.
Has anyone used this and can comment on the following that would be great
The noise level, this would be within earshot daily
The performance, I have read they can periodically cut out is this an actual common issue?
I have read that they were not great for RAID but I personally stick to JBOD (Important Data is backed up elsewhere) does anyone know any issues with these in the JBOD configuration. I haven't been able to find any super in-depth reviews on them actually utilizing the device fully.
Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced suitable devices they are away of ideally using either Thunderbolt or USB-C (10Gbp/s +) that I can easily obtain within the UK if this would not be suitable in your opinion.
Any thoughts would be useful, looking to expand to around 250TB within the next year or so
