Hi folks. I'm trying to determine the most cost effective way to purchase a tape library with at least one LTO-6 drive, preferably fiber channel. I have a couple of questions regarding Dell/IBM libraries/chassis (TL2000, TL4000, ML6000):
- Is there any way to use a full height LTO-6 IBM drive in a TL2000/4000? I heard that there's some support for either LTO-2 or LTO-3 full height drives, however the pictures I've seen of these don't look quite like the IBM LTO-6 drives.
- Does anybody have any idea how much power a ML6000 draws at idle? Along these lines, would it be reasonable to keep the library powered off outside of a weekly backup job (along with any time a restore is needed)?
- Will all IBM drives work in Dell libraries (with matching form factor), or only specific part numbers and firmware versions?
- Do I need any proprietary software to run these on Linux, or can I just use mt/mtx?
Does anybody have a recommendation on how I should build a LTO-6 library?
