I am not sure if this is the best place to ask this but here it goes.

I have a bunch of old .avi video files. The problem is that they use MJPG codec and modern players can not play them. In fact I had to download and old VLC portable version in order to play them.

I have use that VLC to convert them to mp4 but the total filesize of the files was reduced from 40GB to 14GB.

Checking the metadata I can see that this is mostly due to a decrease of the video bitrate.

I would like to know how can I convert these files (if possible in batch) but keeping the same quality.

Thanks in advance.
