I've been thinking about buying a NAS for a long time. My requirements are that I will be streaming on three different devices simultaneously and also want to use it as storage for my files and may be two VM's. So today, to make this happen, I started researching NAS and everything related to them. I found out that Synology is one of the major players in the NAS market. However, when I checked the specs, I was surprised to see that it was still using a Zen 1 processor (AMD Ryzen V1500B) for a price of $3000. The more I researched, the more I realized that I can build my own custom NAS.

What would be the better decision for me: a prebuilt NAS or a DIY build? I also found out that the latest AMD V3000 processors (7000 series) are cutting-edge. I was considering using an AMD Ryzen gaming CPU like the 7900. What are the drawbacks of using a gaming CPU and motherboard over the traditional CPU/motherboard setup?

Please provide suggestions for both budget and high-end system.

I have a lot of questions, and I'd be grateful if you could help me narrow down my choices.

Thank you
