Is this the way to verify an HD? I have 3x drives I bought from goharddrive I need to test. They are

Ultrastar DC HC520 12TB SATA 6Gb 256MB 3.5"

I watched some videos on CrystalDiskInfo and it only displays info. What tools are best for doing a full read/write/verify and Fill drive? I am using vmware to run Windows 10 and I was going to install Ubuntu or linux.

  • Run CrystalDiskInfo
  • Full format in Windows
  • Run CrystalDiskInfo
  • Do a full read/write/verify (badblocks -wsv -b 4096 /dev/sda)?
  • Run CrystalDiskInfo
  • Quick format in Windows
  • Run CrystalDiskInfo
  • Fill drive (cat /dev/zero > /dev/device)?

I am planning to test the hard drives using vmware since I have a macbook. Would there be significant difference in using a USB C or a USB B connection? I figure 12TB is going to take a long time so I am planning on buying a 2 bay SATA enclosure which provides power to test these drive with so I can test two drives at the same time. I only have USB C on my laptop.
