Hi,

A few months ago I was planning to buy a MD1200 and connect it to a PC with a LSI SAS9200-8e type card (I understand that it would need additional cooling in a PC case).

Since I last looked, the reputable seller that I was going to buy from (at about £120 with 3 year warranty) no longer stocks them, and I'm struggling to find a reputable seller for less than £300, so I would like to have another look at possibilities.

I had intended to use SATA drives, but now think that I might just go with second hand 10TB SAS drives.

I see SA120s mentioned a lot, and wondered if they would work in the same way as I planned to use the MD1200.

The seller I mentioned, also sells HP D2700 for about £100, and D3700 for about £300. Are they workable and any good (and how would a D3700 compare to a MD1200).

I'm only planning to use it for backups, and maybe only running for a short period each day, but also potentially 24/7 depending upon power usage.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
