Today I took note of the existence of the site serverpartdeals where they sell refurbished stuff with some good lineage. So, I'm thinking of importing 2x12TB+ NAS oriented HDDs like these: Seagate Exos 14TB ($129.99, Manufacturer Recertified) or Ultrastar 12TB ($109.99, Manufacturer Recertified).
One similar option from here brand-new - 14tb Seagate Exos. 2 of these is 80% more expensive than importing 2x12TB ultrastar $219.98 + shippment $60 + taxes $260 = $537 or R$2990. So, yeah…
My build is running with some cheap 480GB SSD that I have for months now because I can't convince myself of spending more than R$4000 (~$720) just on 2 HDDs...
The more affordable option considering GB/$ from here would be something like HD WD Red Plus, 8TB, 3.5", SATA - WD80EFPX (~$110) or HD WD Red Plus, 4TB, 5400 RPM, 3.5', SATA - WD40EFPX WD (14) (~$192). Which it's not cheap (considering these 2 options as mid-tierish), but a lot more affordable than the HDDs of 10TB+ from here.
What do you guys think, go to the more lower-end 4TB-8TB that I can encounter from here (without losing a leg)? Or, try to import a higher tier refurbished one paying less than a brand-new equivalent from Brazil?
The bulk of my storage usage will be for movies and musics (~3.5TB now) that I have sitting on my computer. In the future, I pretend to use the NAS to storage photos and videos too. So I'm thinking that ~8TB of available storage is a good start.
