Didn’t they say something along the lines of it’s been so long, they won’t come back? Also was only s2 sg1 didn’t fully comprehend the lengths they go

Teal'c told them in the briefing of this episode that the goa'uld would occasionally send scouts to planets, and that having the scout not return was an effective deterrent, so he knew.
