Hello folks,

I want some advice on my backup strategy. My goal is simple: if my computer ever breaks or gets lost, I want to be able to restore everything exactly as it was without having to reinstall anything.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • My Setup: My computer’s internal drive is an SSD, which holds everything, including Windows and all my files.
  • The Backup Drive: I bought a portable 2.5" HDD and created two partitions on it. The first partition is for storing independent files unrelated to my system/computer. The second partition is where I want to back up my entire Windows machine.
  • The Backup Process: I installed Macrium Reflect Home, and I cloned all the partitions from my SSD (Disk 1) to the second partition on the external HDD. The cloning process completed successfully, and now the second partition on the external drive looks similar to my internal SSD.

Questions:

  1. Is this the right way to go about backing up my system? My main concern is whether this method will let me restore everything exactly as it was if something happens to my computer.
  2. How do I handle future backups? If I add more data to my computer in the future, will I need to re-clone everything, or can I just add the new stuff to the existing clone?
  3. If my computer breaks and I get a new one, how do I restore this backup to the new machine? Is it as simple as copying everything over, or is there a specific process I need to follow?
