They're not fighting, definitely a mirage.

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 27 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It’s not like they’re going to be the ones to save them.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

Definitely...maybe?

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 26 points 11 months ago

Anyway ... here's Wonderwall.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I’m afraid that I require an explanation.

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 22 points 11 months ago (2 children)

There was a popular band back in the 90s named Oasis. They look like the two in the bottom. (You'll probably recognize them most for the song Wonderwall)

This joke is both a straightforward pun of their name being Oasis but also a little bit of a deeper cut because the two members of the band fucking hated each other the entire time so them being together has to be a mirage.

I've heard they're actually getting along again and will tour as Oasis next year or so...

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Do you think they'll survive the whole tour?

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

No, but if they happen to do a show nearby I'd think about going... It'd be entertaining to watch them fight at the very least

Google images of "oasis band members."

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Got some photos. Still unsure and don’t know why the word mirage is used.

[–] meliaesc@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 11 months ago

A mirage is an optical illusion, very commonly seen in the desert, and often portrayed as a wonderful water oasis when a person is dehydrated and lost. Of course, the band Oasis isn't standing in the desert either, so it must be a mirage too.

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

In the desert being starved and dehydrated, it's not uncommon to hallucinate things like water and trees. They are called "Mirages"

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Your explanation was helpful. I still don’t know how googling then was clue.

We thought you didn't know the band members, not the definition of mirage and oasis.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

If there isn't already an Oasis cover band called Mirage, there should be

You're my wonderwall

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

It's not a mirage. They're reuniting.

Tony Blur? The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007??

[–] merari42@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

You need to get your head checked (by a jumbo jet)

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

People believed they were gonna live forever, but they died from a champagne supernova in the sky as the alcohol dehydrated them even more.

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Should we be upset at this turn of events? No. Don't look back in anger.

Bonus panel: There's a third guy, he sees The Line (the planned city that's basically just a wall through the Arabian desert) just over the horizon, he stops, looks back at Oasis and shouts "hey, play Wonderwall!" and starts crawling towards salvation. (Which never comes, because it's all a mirage).

What? Is it a sabotage?

One of the Gallagher brothers should be flipping that ol' reverse peace-and-love sign.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Gallagher, Too!?

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

This makes me laugh

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Stop and talk to them. You know they've got some excellent drugs.

Edit: holy shit they’re doing a reunion tour.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

They're just douchebags who made 2 ok songs 30 years ago. I hate Oasis, I deeply regret buying the casette tape when I was 15. Don't get me started.
