If i have 3 x 12tb (10.9) drives in a two-way mirror currently giving me 16.3tb space, but would like to gain more room to breathe. Can i simply add one more 12tb drive to get ~21.8? any trick to it?

And what exactly does the 'optimize drive usage to spread data...' checkbox do?
