Im looking to save HDD/SDD space on my desk. And I want to dock them for use of backup when needed. I have already bought a Orico 3549C3 (4 bay dock).
And that model is giving me nothing but bugs and headaches. I been going back and forth figuring out what's wrong as well as contacting Orico about it. The problem is I'm not getting data transfer speeds as advertised. For example, is expect SATA 5 (100MBs) speeds minimum from 3.5" HDDs. And I expect SATA 6 or above (300-500MBs) speeds from an SSD.
However, weeks testing this I literally get random speeds. That is mainly 20MBs from both HDDs and SSDs. Which took me 2 days to backup a 2TB of data. So I'm returning this.
I want to know if you guys never deal with what I went through. What dock bay is great to have and reputable? I'm looking for either a 4 or 5 bay. I do not care about RAID or NAS. I don't need them I don't know how to use them. And I only want to use the drives individually. Unless w RAID I have the option to turn it off as normal use.
I looked into Yottamaster and Terramaster as alternatives and walking away from Orico. Sebrent was also a consideration.. any advice?
EDIT: the Orico cost me $150. But I'm returning for a refund. Looking at Yotta, Terramaster, sabrent are looking to be a bit higher but I'm okay with that. They look to be around $200 -300.
Seeing if anyone has a dock bay with absolutely no issues and recommends.
