Currently I am running a mini PC with N100 CPU and 8gb ram hooked up to a 5 bay sabrent DAS. Running Ubuntu Server with CasaOS and it's been great all year.

I was learning a bit as I went and am currently running about 20-25 containers. I feel like having all my eggs in one basket isn't ideal nor is this as powerful as I'd like for all the containers I'm using. Plus now that I know what I want to do I want to start fresh.

Primary task is Home Assistant, Emby and *arrs but now I have a bunch of other cool things running which I like like Immich,

I bought a 2nd N100 mini PC on sale with 12GB ram, was thinking of doing an entire redo of my server set up.

I purchased a few new 18tb hard drives and actually want to set up some redundancy. Currently just using a bunch of disks (one large for tv shows, another for movies and an SSD for photos and documents) but the media ones are getting full.

I am debating between Unraid and OpenMediaVault and setting up an array with my drives with either 1 or 2 parity drives.

Server 1: 12gb ram 512gb ssd (new one) https://store.chuwi.com/products/larkbox-x-2023 Bought for $130 CAD last month.

Server 2: 8gb ram 256gb ssd https://www.newegg.ca/p/2SW-003Z-00005?Item=9SIBFJMJ7B3286 Bought for $150 in December.

Scenario 1:

Server 2 hooked up to the DAS, running either unraid or omv. Server 1 running all my containers since it has more ram. Linked via 2.5gb switch and ethernet ports for speed.

Scenario 2:

Server 1 hooked up to Das running OMV or Unraid, but also hosting Home Assistant, Emby and *arrs and leaving server 2 for all my other containers, messing around and other projects.

Scenario 3:

Put everything on server 1 and just use my old one (server 2) for something else entirely.

Debating also between unraid and OMV and leaning towards snapraid on OMV unless someone can provide some insight here. I have other drives with data I like that I can just pop in as needed.

Ordered 1 20tb for parity and 2 18tb for storage. Currently have a 20tb, 12tb and 8tb that I can move to the array and then once moved I can use the 20tb as a spare incase one dies and add the 12 and 8 to the array since I have 5 bays. I want to use the nvme SSD as cache, docker storage on both servers.

Any advice? Much appreciated!
