Steam families freaking rocks, the original library sharing was a pain for my kids. I'm so glad they are doing this. On my next trip to the US I want to buy a deck for my kids but I don't know how, since it requires a US based account.

What do you mean? I'm not from the US and I have a steam deck

[–] warmaster@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Where did you buy it? I want to buy it in the US to avoid the high overprice that they sell ir at in my country.

In Australia, but I think it's the same model as the US

Yeah, I really like the fact that my son and I can play different games from the same library at the same time. Also, the bi-directional sharing is very nice, and the whole thing is much easier to set up than the original library sharing.

Just make a us account and buy it?

Hope the Families beta is released to stable soon - the beta has some weird volume and display issues with some games (Gungeon is a good example).

Yeah my sibling set up a Family, but I didn't opt-in on my Deck because it's still in Beta.

I don't think you can opt in, the Families beta isn't on the deck yet.

What do you mean? My kids have been playing my library using the new Family Sharing rules for a couple months on my LCD deck by opting into the beta.

And yes, the new Family Sharing is amazing. It’s made me want to buy exclusively into Steam ecosystem.

Can I share a game with my relative who lives in a different country? Or does it need to be under the same Wi-Fi network?

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

It does have to be in the same country. I don't think it has to be the same wifi network, although Valve does say that it's intended for people in a single household so they might change requirements later.
