2 years ago, in a hot summer, i had a fly stay the whole day with me. When i noticed, i first shushed it away and it kept landing on the same spot. Since it wasn't really bothering me, i kept the fly in my view and it was absolutely always landing and staying very close to me, but never touched me.

It followed me through the whole house, wherever, bathroom, kitchen living room - it was always just a few inches away from me.

I even started to be careful, not to sit on it ... Like this would ever happen, as fast as they are.

Anyway, it was strange and wholesome at the same time. Was gone the next day, i really missed the little fella.

Edit: though, they live longer, or? Afaik, the flies that only live 24 hours are mayflies.

I'm sure my fly was a common house fly. Must have gotten bored with me, after a day.

Edit 2:

Must have gotten bored with me, after ~~a day~~ i took a shower.

TheSlad, thanks for reminding me

Did you consider taking a shower at any point during that day?

I mostly shower around 9:00 pm. Yeah I must have had some scent on me, the strange thing was the fly was absolutely no-touchy.

Such stank that even the flies keep their distance.

As much as the content of this comment is enjoyable, the fact that it is the 1st and not 105th comment is disappointing.

Socially awkward fly

House flies live several weeks. I think you're confusing fruit flies, which have a much shorter lifespan.

I thought, they might be thinking of mayflies, which have lifespans ranging from mere minutes to a handful of days.

I don't know, if it's a thing in other languages, too, but in German, we also happen to call them one-day-flies ("Eintagsfliegen"), which has kind of led to the myth that they live quite precisely only one day.

But turns out that mayflies do not look like that at all: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayfly

They have yet to fear the sound of my blow torch, because there are no survivors

I torched a thousand baby spiders once with hairspray and a lighter. I didn't even feel bad about it.
