Hi,

I want to move on from having most of my data on just one external HDD to a safer setup. I do not need anything fancy, no network. I do have offsite storage already, but I can't access it often, so all I need is a convenient backup solution for my home.

There is this RAID enclosure from Aliexpress that can also be used in a normal non-RAID mode, which I would use. I would put 2 4TB drives in there and use one drive as my main backup, the other one as a monthly backup to limit read/writes. I like how this enclosure will have everything in one neat package.

What do you think of this? Would you rather get two external drives so that the backup-backup can be unplugged from power to increase lifetime even more? Or am I overthinking this?
