What is geoscience?

Geoscience (also called Earth Science) is the study of Earth. Geoscience includes so much more than rocks and volcanoes, it studies the processes that form and shape Earth's surface, the natural resources we use, and how water and ecosystems are interconnected. Geoscience uses tools and techniques from other science fields as well, such as chemistry, physics, biology, and math! Read more...

Most importantly, it tells us that if humanity slashes emissions to zero...

Every time I hear one of these hypothetical Fantasyland takes of everyone getting on the same page I almost laugh. It would be nice, and I really don't want to increase my already high level of cynicism, but does anyone really think we'll all get on the same page? I know in the US a large swath of the population holds strongly to anti-environment beliefs, firmly rooted in ignorance and culture war rhetoric. I also know that rampant capitalism will do everything it can to protect short term gains.

Literally every little bit of effective action will impact the future temperature by some fraction of a degree.

It is functionally inevitable that climate change will cause catastrophic changes to the world we live in during this century. But, I would say that it's highly likely that there will still be some people, living within the catastrophe, in some sort of place.

However bad or not-as-bad-as-we-thought it winds up to be, every little fraction will make a little positive impact on the world they're living in.
