Octopussies

[–] tate@lemmy.sdf.org 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also, octopi. They're all "correct" due to the multiple original languages' grammar.

i can do you one better: language doesn't have rules, if it sounds good it's valid, who cares

[–] blackluster117@possumpat.io 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've always preferred 'octopodes'. It's just such a fun word.

After reading the children of time series, I choose to use octopodes simply due to the fact that they are beautifully narcissistic little bastards in those books.

Man is that a good, if gut wrenching series.

Thank you! I knew they were all correct, and I knew why, but I didn't have an authoritative source to point folks to.

It used to be on the Merriam Webster YouTube channel but I think that editor left and for some reason it was taken down.

Octopodes nuts?

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago

at this point i just spite everyone and call them something like "octopodii" or "octopiuses"

Octopuses are really good at doing heroin because they have lots of arms to choose from.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago

It's all just one researcher and his best pal octopus taking all the biology budget to have a blast on the weekends.

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 15 points 1 year ago

I wish octopuses lived longer. I'd have an octopus friend.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's no "may" about it. Each octopus arm has its own little processing center to handle its unique movements, it's called the ganglia.

Just like the butt brain in a t rex to manage walking. I see.
