The problem with sorting by new is that the new posts have no comments yet, so I would feel more pressure to comment. And then people might respond to me, thereby noticing my existence, the horror!

I only post it when it applies to the discussion or is encouraging. If someone posted "no more half measures" to a self help post about breaking sobriety it would be horrible.

Sorting by new post-federation makes this place feel like a radiation-filled half-dead warzone. I hate it but still do it, partly for the morbid curiosity of other instances shit-talking us and wanting to de-federate.
maybe it's cause I blocked the most annoying comms (memes@lemmy.ml) but I mainly see posts in small hobby comms and hexbear
