US shooters are used to moving targets in schools or seated targets in movie theaters.

The need the screaming in the background.

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 year ago

I wonder if anyone has edited screaming back in.

Made it into some academic discourse:

to be fair, americans aren't known for their sharpshooting.

Took the invention of the repeating rifle to win the west.

Which movie was it (maybe naked gun?) where it's a 5 minute hallway shootout and none of the cops could hit anything.

[–] SirDerpy@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Star Wars. They were part of the rebel alliance and traitors to the empire. But, the cops couldn't hit anything until one of them broke out a shotgun loaded with heat-seeking shot and fired it point blank. Don't judge too harshly. They can't see a thing in those helmets.

They would have won the drive by and the Pray and spray events. Or if you had an event where the targets were school kids

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or Las Vegas crowds. It's pretty wild how the Vegas lobby has completely suppressed the memory of the worst mass shooting in US history.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

What does that even mean? Clearly you and I remember it at minimum. What would you expect to be done differently?

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

To be fair, the utter ruins of our public education system we traded for capitalist tax cuts ensures Americans aren't known for our sharp anything.

Mongolians are mainly known for their horsemanship rather than their marksmanship. They are probably the best marksman on horseback that have ever lived, but as far as historically being known for their archery.....that's the Koreans, and they're still pretty dominant in the Olympics.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 41 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I propose a new sport: horsery

[–] H1jAcK@lemm.ee 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's called dressage, madam, and it is horse DANCING

That may be too confusing, you're just going to end up with a bunch of magic casters on horseback.

They are probably the best marksman on horseback that have ever lived,

The Parthian Empire has declared war on you

[–] palmtrees2308@lemmy.one 43 points 1 year ago (3 children)

India with less medals than north korea

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 48 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Only if “tech tutorials” were a thing in the Olympics. I swear the gold medal would never go somewhere else.

Having worked for Comcast, I can also say they'd win gold in the "most coders jammed into a one-person office" competition.

[–] gregor@gregtech.eu 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What the hell is north Korea doing in the Olympics anyway?

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 44 points 1 year ago (25 children)

Competing like any other country.

Taking selfies together with South Korean sportspeople. Bet the other North Koreans never get to see them though.

Except that in men's skeet shooting qualifiers right now the US's 2 shooters are leading with spots 1 and 2 with a perfect score and a 124/125.

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

At least the Turks got one. The Koreans are preparing their S class rankers for when the gate opens or some shit.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

The men's skeet shooting finals ended up in a shoot-off to determine gold and silver - both Americans.

Most US poular shooting sports (IDPA, 5-gun, etc) aren't represented in the Olympics, with the exception of skeet shooting.

The US has taken home a gold medal in skeet shooting for 5 Olympics in a row.

[–] DeanFogg@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think US got medals in archery tho
