Ebikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, longboards, eboards, motorcycles, skates, unicycles, heelies, or an office chair: Whatever floats your goat, this is all things micromobility!

"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.

micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

No price, no availability, no distance metrics, no material component description.

Is this just full vaporware?

I have no idea what this solves. You get wet and have to pedal like in a bike, but it's big and cumbersome like a car?

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

It’s expensive like a boat too

Perhaps it could be useful for longer journeys, or for those with a physical disability?

Either way, it's definitely not a revolutionary concept.

You know what’s even more useful for longer journeys and those with physical disabilities?

Cars

I have no idea what a "presidential chair" is or why they're trying to make it happen. And yes, I ~~read~~ skimmed the article.

I think it just means "expensive"

"Presidential chair"? Does that mean something to the average person? Weird autocorrect error?

[–] AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today 9 points 1 year ago

no, it will not

Not everything has to be "the replacement for cars". I hope diversification is the "death by a thousand cuts" to cars, where everyone has an option that best accommodates their situation.

All that is left is a roof.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

and a roofie so you can forget the whole stupid experience

Too big for micromobility and too limited to replace a car? That's just the kind of niche that nobody wants to be in in traffic.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 2 points 1 year ago

I would argue recumbent trikes and even velomobiles still count as micromobility, but they're really niche and unlikely to replace cars any time soon because they're really niche.

Also, expensive which helps make them really niche.

Bonus also: Most places don't have dedicated infrastructure for micromobility and until they do that will be a massive deterrent for many people.

Interesting description?
