General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Oh ffs is anybody on TV not a paedo?!

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Attenborough, I'd wager. That's about the only one I'd be confident of. Probably Brian Blessed as well.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tony Hart, although I hear Morph has a tell-all autobiography in the pipeline...

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't want to hear anything bad about Tony Hart, Johnny Morris, Johnny Ball, or Brian Cant. Oh, or John Noakes. All the others are a bit sus though.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don’t want to hear anything bad about ... Johnny Ball

How bad is "bad" here?

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A quick wikipediaing suggests climate change denial which is disappointing but I can live with it. Plus something about Strictly and accusing a dancer of faking an injury. Is that it?

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's mainly the climate change denial that annoys me as a lot of kids got their love of science and maths from him. However, I find the complaining about CRB checks to be a concern - I can't see any reason why he'd object to them.

[–] stsquad@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The main pain with CRB checks is having to go through it for every thing. You can't just apply once and get the certificate and I don't think the organisation your applying from makes a material difference to the checks that are done.

There are also good cops 🤡

[–] Mex@feddit.uk 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Not yet convicted, so don't jump to conclusions, but it's not looking good for him.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 12 points 1 year ago

Obviously "innocent until proven guilty" but as it is for manufacturing child abuse images then they must have some pretty damning evidence.

[–] jakwithoutac@feddit.uk 6 points 1 year ago

Normally I’d whole heartedly agree, but to be accused of anything even close to CSAM means he is likely one of:

  • guilty, and not smart enough to hide it
  • innocent, and incredibly stupid (considering his position in media)
  • the victim of a very dark Wile E. Cayote frame up job

Guess we’ll all find out soon enough.

faie point on the invidividual level but let's be real...

Catholic Church, Hollywood, YouTube celebs, politicians, police, prisons...

There is a pattern in there. It is getting tiring of normies denying it

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Isn't Huw Edwards a Presbyterian, though?

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

no idea... it aint like other religions are any different, Catholics just got a world wide pedophile protection racket going so it is easy to point to them.

but all religions are like this, mohamed was a pedo according their own writings lol

southern baptists in southern US keep getting caught raping children...

religion is cancer that enables access and cover.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure rape exists outside of religious institutions... Such as schools... Which enable both access and cover 🙄 does this make education a cancer? What about hospitals? Or media corporations? Or governments? Or even families?

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes exactly until these failed institutions start acting in good faith... ie hold perps accountable instead of covering for them, they should treated as cancer that they are.

Hospitals are notorious for misconduct, albeit not child rape. Just generic corpo trash behavior extracting money while people die.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

There are also plenty of churches which do hold people accountable. Those just don't make the headlines or hit the atheist talkshows.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago

Timmy Mallett.

Because if you were on Operation Yewtree, you'd for sure have had a look at his history. The fact that they've found nothing indicates the man is clean.

Chris Morris is presumably on some weird shit we don't even have words for. Just a whole other wavelength.

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Only fools and horses would believe that

Wasn't there an allegation awhile ago for this guy being a nonce?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

☹️ I used to like him, too.

[–] baggins@beehaw.org -5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He just got a bloody pay rise as well!

[–] FBJimmy@lemmus.org 8 points 1 year ago

"Mr Edwards left the BBC in April."

[–] baggins@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There was a post on here recently that listed BBC presenters pay, and it mentioned him getting a pay rise.

[–] stsquad@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I don't if if it was a pay rise or just he'd done more work last year (extra voiceover work for coronations etc).
