It's A Digital Disease!

It's a 12TB Seagate Ironwolf from 2021, warranty expired in April 2024. Cosmetically it's fine apart from a few bronze coloured spots on it which just kinda look like a liquid splashed on it and dried up. I got it from Cex in the UK and they're hit and miss with testing, but great with returns, so I have confidence in buying from them.

Anyway, put it in my Synology DS120J and it has 0 hours on it. Ran a quick SMART test and it came back fine, waited for the Ironwolf test to become available which is also fine. I transferred 5TB to it with no issues and now running the extended SMART test which will take 18+ hours.

So far everything seems fine but seems really odd that you'd erase SMART data for a secondhand drive? I could understand someone trying to fool an eBay buyer, but odd that you'd do it for Cex of all places because everything at Cex is secondhand and everyone who buys there knows they're not getting the best condition items.

Cex has a 2 year warranty anyway and I'm not expecting to use this for more than a year so I'm not that bothered, just wondering if I should be concerned.
