My brother broke his in kindergarden. And somehow his body decided that that bone is not needed anymore. Now he has no controll over it and you can just tilt it with your hand. It's very weird.
He probably tore the ligament that keeps it in place.
I had three when I was born, lost one on each side to a coffee table(seperate occations).

The bones broke and weren't set properly, so they fused together

It wss a joke about how coffe tables are my feets arch enemy, frozengryo makes a better point that I would be more likely to make more bones bashing them on a coffee table then lose them.
I think I was born with two and gained a third from the coffee table, or so it felt like

I just looked at an xray, I have 3 bones in all of my toes, except the big toe. I'm weird right?
