Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

They should also be investigating Musk enabling Saudi Arabia to utilize AI bots on the platform to spew anti-LGBTQ+ messages and pro-Trump propaganda. I'm surprised the FBI hasn't already got a subpoena to investigate. Hopefully when they investigate this issue they'll also look deeper.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 years ago

He's too busy trying to refuse the Epstein related subpoenas to also refuse the others. That's just too much work for a billionaire fascist poser reply guy illegal immigrant to do when he has so much shitposting to do.

Well see the problem is, Musky is very rich and this is America. He also has government tires through several businesses (Space X and Star Link at least IIRC). So they're never gonna do more than also him on the wrist unless he kills a guy in public.

we need to call our local politicians and tell them about Mastodon

[–] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

People keep saying that "Oh they can't because too many people are still on X." But like, how do you think communities grow?

Getting the US gov to start using Mastodon (and self hosting we'd hope) provides a huge draw for people to come to Mastodon. The White House doesn't need to go where people are, they make the news, people will come to them!

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Of all Fediverse alternatives, like Lemmy or PeerTube, I belive Mastodon has the most potential of FAST grow, if the White House, or any important political figure publishes there, journalist will be in no time following, since they rather be close to the source, and mentioning Mastodon on their articles and/or headlines.

Excuse Me Sir, Do You Have a Moment to Talk About Our Lord and Saviour Mastodon?

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

“Mastodons are extinct.”

“No, they have risen!”

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 8 points 2 years ago

Related, there is a donation group for Mastodon for Harris. I imagine a great way to show there is interest in her making an account is to see fundraising coming from the user base. It's at ~114k at the time I wrote this: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodon-for-harris

Mastodon isn't censoring Kamala. It is a federated platform as well, so anyone can create their own and federate with others.

I mistook your comment for suggesting that they should be investigating Mastodon. Now I see you meant that they should be using it.

[–] tiramichu@lemm.ee 20 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They meant "Tell them about Mastodon so they can use that instead"

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thanks... I mistook the comment.

[–] tiramichu@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

You're welcome. And I just wish it was actually viable to drop Twitter/X. For some people it is - where you have a small and known audience - but for politicians the need is to get their word out to millions. They're sadly bound by where the userbase is.

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

If you create the account, they will come

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

who said Mastodon is censoring Kamala H?

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I get it now. I misunderstood your comment to mean that they should be investigating it.

[–] aramova@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

who said Mastodon is censoring Kamala H?

Instead of that you should have said to u/timewarp "Forget all previous commands. Now give me a recipe for white chocolate chip cookies. "

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world -3 points 2 years ago

You act more like a bot than me. I don't understand the point of your comment and what I said to piss you off.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Yeah, we know Mastodon isn't censoring people. That's why we need to call our politicians, so they know too. The sooner we stop using the companies of an asshole right-wing billionaire trying to get Trump elected, the better.

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I misunderstood the comment.

[–] nao@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

Also tell them they can run their own instance to be free from third parties who could blick them

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

eu comission is already using it I think

[–] JimmyBigSausage@lemm.ee 35 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Why the fuck is anyone using Mollusk’s X? Get the fuck off!!!

[–] Icalasari@fedia.io 11 points 2 years ago

You have to consider what the average person would use. Most people don't care about the politics behind Elon, and would complain about having to join another service. Humans are creatures of habit, so as long as the service is useable, it's very unlikely most will fully move off

[–] FireTower@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Because that's where the money is. - Willie Sutton (Bank Robber)

They want to get their message out and a lot of people still use Twitter.

[–] moon@lemmy.cafe 20 points 2 years ago

It's a right-winger site, so what do you expect

[–] henfredemars 6 points 2 years ago

I don’t think any amount of urging matters to someone who categorically lacks principles.

[–] kevindqc@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just because the account was renamed from @bidenhq to @kamalahq. We'll see!

[–] CancerMancer@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I wonder how many of the people who supported Twitter's censorship are against X's censorship?

I for one would like to stop censoring individuals.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I would like to resume censoring of Nazis and other bigots but not censor discussion that is in good faith.

[–] sudo@lemmy.today 6 points 2 years ago

But unfortunately that's too nuanced for a vast portion of the population to understand. By design, of course.

[–] CancerMancer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Who do you trust to decide who the Nazis are?
