Hi everyone! Newbie here:

I am currently starting my first NAS server. I am running an old PC with TrueNas. Everything is setup, I have an SMB file sharing system and can access files alright through ethernet. My questions are:

  1. At the moment my PC is connected to my router through ethernet and I connect my PC through ethernet to the same router to access the files and server. Is this the correct procedure?
  2. Does this leave me vulnerable to internet attacks or malware? Is my server technically connected to the internet or is it local?
  3. Would the system work/work better if I connect my PC directly to a Gigabit Switch and my pc to the Switch?
  4. Does my wifi speed matter when transfering the files through ethernet? For example, am I transferring at the speed of the cable rating and HDD read/write (~200mb/s w/CAT7) or at the speed of my wifi (50Mb/s)?

Any recommendation in setup is appreciated. Thanks in advance to everyone.
