Hi Everyone,

I am evaluating Idrive using one of their free 10 gig accounts. I installed the Idrive program and set up a local folder with a bunch of files totalling 3 gig to test drive using Idrive in my day to day work.

2 weeks into what was smooth sailing I found out that my computer was suddenly uploading data constantly. Usual internet surfing slowed down considerbly.

I have limited expertise so can only tell that idwutil_600.exe is sending this data, and cannot tell what is being sent or where it is being sent. Killing this process stops the uploading. I monitor this with a generic bandwith meter for looking at upload and download speeds- my usual use has very small amounts of upload, and when I found out this uploading problem it will be max speed upload constantly while Idrive is run.

The uploaded amount of data (from the generic bandwith meter) shows an amount larger than the 3 gig local folder when left alone.

Aside from updating antimalware, I have not added any files to my test folder when this behaviour started.

I have not scheduled any backups, and several of the backup options are not available in the free version anyway. My test folder shows that every file is synced when the uploading occurs, and on the status window for Idrive program also displays files as synced, while I see the data being uploaded.

From a practical standpoint usual internet use has slowed down to a standstill in e.g. loading pages.

This goes back to normal when I kill the process idwutil_600.exe. It restarts when I restart the idrive program.

I have reinstalled Idrive and this behaviour continues.

As my account is a free one I submitted a help ticket but to be honest being a bit disappointed with most calls for help to vendors I am not sure if I will get anything aside from asking me to update windows, reinstall the program, check my firewall etc.

Has anyone seen this type of behaviour with their IDrive or cloud storage service? It would be a shame to discount/ replace a service and blame one on an issue that could be potentially fixed.

As an aside I use onedrive and have not had such issues. I tested sync (from sync.com) and also have not seen this problem several months into a trial.

Thank you!
