Hi,
I am trying to come up with a clever strategy regarding my personal files.
I have more or less :
- 6 TB of data which doesn't change often (photos)
- 1 Tb of data which needs regular backup (weekly or at least monthly)
Right now I'm working with external hard drives & stuffs, which is not convenient.
I've started looking at Backblaze and Amazon S3 Glacier.
I've used S3 in the past for my own website, only for a few files.
There are a few things I don't understand (I'm really a noob about all of this), so maybe you can help me :
- How to put the files in Glacier : I only know S3. How am I going to put the Terabytes of data in there ? Do I need to put them first in S3 (in which case I guess I pay 1 month of data in S3 as well ?)
- How can I manage incremental updates ? Let's say I have a few more photos to add : how to know which one I've uploaded before ? Is there a clever way to do that ?
- Princing : I tried the AWS calculator, but I don't understand half of the fields : https://calculator.aws/#/createCalculator/S3
I chose :
- 7 TB of storage per month (Glacier Deep Archive)
- 500k PUT request (I will probably upload archived files though to reduce that number)
- average object size of 20 MB
Are there other fields I should fill to get a good understanding of the costs ?
Thanks,
AJRP
