Remember when the conservative party had the veneer of morality and decency, with unwavering support for the rule of law? Neither do they.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

But they claim they do, and always did, so long as you don't ask follow-up questions.

I’m an American but I assume it’s probably the fault of our conservatives

Funny you say that. One of our province's far right premiers, blamed "progressives" for the same kind of rhetoric in Canada that led to the Trump shooting in the US.

Sounds like she's getting her taking points from South of the border

[–] psvrh@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

She is. There's a coordinated effort among party strategists across borders.

In case you wonder why the biggest fear of conservatives is trans-national labour unions, it's because they work trans-nationally, know how well it works, and are terrified of the poors doing the same thing.

Our politicians have been importing the US's politics for ages, even when it doesn't apply to us

[–] Delusional@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's the conservative propaganda that's been blaring since the 60's. Nothing but hatred and idiocy for decades. Blaming Democrats for issues that don't exist or aren't their fault. Never giving a proper solution to anything, just spewing more hate and lies daily.

American conservatives just provided the route; it took our own cruel elitists to walk that road.

Unfortunately, The Honorable Leader of HM Official Opposition Mr Polievre is quite likely to sleepwalk into a job as Canada’s next Prime Minister. The current PM is so reviled by Canadians (according to polls - a type of lie know as Statistics), it seems possible that no one in the Liberal Party will be successful in the next election. I’m ashamed to say it’s a good time to be an ex-pat.

[–] Nogami@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As long as it’s not a majority government I can deal with that.

Boy I have news for you about next election

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Can I borrow your time machine for a few minutes?

hey its that guy who didn't read the article, got triggered by the headline, and had to post something snarky to feel better, posting more stuff to manage his own emotions. buddy, there are less embarrassing ways to regulate your emotions.

This article's question reminded me of and old and dark joke: when "power user" comes to the grizzled sysadmin with a printout of his very first program and asks "sir, can you see where the error is" to which grizzled sysadmin replied "in DNA" without ever looking away from his screen. Same here.. problem is in DNA of conservatism. They are attached to material stuff thus with each iteration removing themselves further from humanity. It's i escapable for them to end up here.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

his very first program

Who's very first program? The sysadmin or powerruser? Neither of them are likely to make programs, and idk why anyone would bring a printout of a program to a sysadmin to inspect.

I can't tell if this is self-deprecation of sysadmin or a PEBCAK joke.

[–] doxxx@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This likely originates from the Before Times when universities would have a full time sysadmin who would often write some of the software for the computer system/network at the university. See Bastard Operator From Hell for an example.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Who's very first program

Indeed, who IS very first? Is any of us really first?

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As native speaker of English: English is stupid

I'll tell you who isn't first (in my heart); the Angles. Nor are any of their descendants.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

All conservatives are trash. That's what.

[–] ProgrammingSocks@pawb.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is honestly a useless article. No conservative will be swayed by it and it reads like liberal morality preaching.

[–] smokescreen@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Welcome to modern politics, a never ending blame game and holier than thou preaching from both sides
