Sigh, I know exactly what made this song come to mind

[–] protist@mander.xyz 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mikey had a facial scar, and Bobby was a racist

This part, right?...

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Uh, no, though there's no shortage of racists.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Sorry, thought the ellipses would more effectively communicate this was tongue in cheek. I'm familiar with the line you were referencing

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I got it, was just going doing with it.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 1 year ago

I can link at least 4 lines to relevant things in the news recently... lol

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Weird, I've been thinking about this song for a few hours today.

[–] No_Ones_Slick_Like_Gaston@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Well, it should have been a better shot, and got him in the head

They were all in love with dying.

In an alternate universe, OP posted a song by Filter.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

In this universe OP was afraid to make that joke. (But absolutely would have posted it if things had gone differently.)

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know it's just nonsense lyrics but damn does it feel like there is an epic story you are only getting parts of

[–] magikmw@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's very much not nonsense. What you're experiencing is poetry.

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Ok well I mean it's random. The stories don't form a coherent narrative

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah that song has always made me feel that way. I know what you mean. Someday some adventurous author will write one to go with it all. (Or already has I bet.)

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I will wait until after it gets expanded into a 7 thick novel series then made into a 90 minute live-action movie, clearly written and directed by someone who only read the Wikipedia article on it.

I don't mind the sun sometimes,

The images it shows.

I can taste you on my lips,

And smell you in my clothes.

Cinnamon and sugary,

And softly spoken lies.

You never know just how you look,

Through other people's eyes.

I worked for a startup back in the dot-com days. Our offices were originally band rehearsal space before we took over. One of the bands that regularly used the space was BHS.

[–] mikyopii@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I do like this song and album, but in hindsight you can see it's the beginning when the band got a lot less weird and more commercial.

[–] Drusas@kbin.run 6 points 1 year ago

It's just so much fun to sing, though.

🎵 Mikey got with Sharon. Sharon got Cherese. She was sharing Sharon's outlook on the topic of disease.🎵

I was working in a warehouse with another punk and this came over the airwaves. I can still remember him looking at me with a really confused expression before asking,"Is this....The Butthole Surfers?!" Like it just clashed with his reality.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

They went from a peepee bat and club fires to not minding the sun sometimes

[–] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Wow, this was a trip, I haven't heard this in decades. They've got a really interesting discography too.

Also though... what's with the comments on that video? At time of writing there are only four comments with different timestamps by one account, all with exactly one upvote.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Heh I hadn't noticed that about the comments, no idea!

Obligatory link to Todd in the Shadows video in this song: ONE HIT WONDERLAND: “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers
