You can set the default sort on your profile's settings page.

Click your button top right -> Settings -> then scroll down below preferred language, you'll see "Sort type: "

I have my personal settings set to sort everything by New. However, whenever I browse a Hexbear community, it always seems to ignore my personal settings and sort by Active instead.
