"Can lead to majorities with less than half of the votes"

UK: elects majority with <34% of the vote.

What is first past the post? (wrong answers only)

The first candidate who's less harmful than having a literal wooden post in office wins (impossible)

So all the candidates line up and race to a post and back. The winner leads the country. It's called first past the post because the person who made it past the post first has always won, so basically the second half of the event is basically moot.

This is veryh much on the nose for western Canada (at least, BC from my experience). By the time we get to vote the winner is already called.
