Hey everyone. Just pulled the trigger on a CWWK based build for my NAS/Plexbox, Specs are below

  • CWWK N100 Board
  • Fractal Design ARC Mini R2
  • CoolerMaster 650W Gold V2
  • Crucial DDR5 SODIMM 16GB 4800MHz
  • Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC530 14TB (x7)
  • Samsung PM981 256GB NVME

Other than the N100, drives and RAM, most of the hardware choices came down to free or cheap.

My plan is to build a single array of 6 drives (5+1) with one cold spare. I'm fine with single redundancy as they are not critical files, but it would be a pain to source some of the media. What I want to know is as someone who is relatively techminded (built my own PCs, know enough) but never dabbled with NAS software/linux/dockers, what's my best software solution?

I don't think Windows is a good option as Intel quicksync doesn't work on Plex on windows. So should I use TrueNAS, Unraid, something else? I run 2/3 4K TVs and will mostly just serve media from this with it serving a secondary backup for some personal files.

This is a huge step up from my current 8TBx3 drives so I have no real expansion plans for the next 5-10 years. Just want some advice on setup since I mainly just use Plex.
