There's always a lot of talk on this sub about new VS refurbished and which is better yadda yadda but I'm more wondering why drives end up refurbished in the first place. I was under the impression they're usually purchased by enterprises and found to be defective in some way or another, but then if they have issues, how can they be resold and be usable?

So really my questions are:

  1. What kinds of defects do these drives (potentially) have?
  2. How are those fixed?
