It's A Digital Disease!

I borrowed Game of Thrones Season 2 from a friend and wanted to add it to my digital collection. There are only two episodes per disc but it took more than an hour to rip it…maybe because the disc was a little scratched. But holy moly even on my 24 inch monitor it looked awful. Way worse than any rips imI downloaded when the show was released even though the files are bigger. I thought I could cheap out on disc space for tv shows, sit coms are okish in dvd quality. Do you still enjoy watching DVDs? Is there an upscaling option?
