Academia can be really chill as long as you don’t have aspirations for greatness

As someone who just likes doing bench work and absolutely never wants to be a PI I’d much rather stay in academia. No profit motive means much less pressure and no one checking too closely on what I’m doing.

My PI tells me what she wants, I tell her how long that will take and if I’ll need extra assistance, and then I give her the results when I have them. Then I fuck off whenever I want and as long as my rats get fed no one really questions it.

nah, give me academia vs working with clients. I hated that shit so much.

academia has been poisoned by MBAs so much that you only teach 10% of the time and the other 90% is doing pointless admin. it's almost exactly like a customer service job, at least for adjuncts/entry-level lecturers

The duality of humanity right here. I hated academics and I'm way happier facing clients. Because even if they're being unreasonable, they're still paying me more than a living wage which is more than I could say about my advisor

it's possible to work on some very internal system and then all your clients are coworkers. which is niiiiice, let me tell you.

My company's culture is such that we even call other departments "clients". I was like oh cool, so this is like working consulting except without a sales and legal team covering my ass.

I miss academia so much. Just let me dick around trying to prove theorems and lecture all day again please.
