Warning shot. Makes sure the rest of'em knows who's boss.

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 19 points 1 year ago (3 children)

That asteroid was just minding its business, not decimating any life anywhere when they shot it.

That's the equivalent of shooting a Chinese person today because of pearl harbor.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why would I shoot a Chinese person for what Japan did in Pearl Harbor?

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

That's the joke.

Why are people even using forums if they can't grasp written language?

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It would make more sense if he said "It's like shooting a Japanese person today because of pearl harbour"

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

But they already received a nuke for it.

But might as well double down on nonsense as OP seems completely oblivious

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly. Why are people even using forums if they can’t even read the WWII story in full so they can’t possibly formulate a cohesive metaphor.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Are you suggesting WWII isn't basic common knowledge?

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The ‘common knowledge’ of WWII goes well beyond far and wide what was happening on one side of the fence. Being oblivious to that just to make what OP thinks is ‘edgy’ racism joke is pretty fucking severely racist and clearly missed some pretty basic ‘common knowledge’.

Why would you shoot this rock for the damage one did 66m years ago?

This was Japan…do you not know or remember the rest of the story of WWII and how that went for them?? Or maybe you got bored in the middle of the story.

Read the rest of the comments that I made. I chose China on purpose to illustrate how ridiculous it is to shoot a random asteroid because of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.

I apologize for writing a post that requires assuming a context clue.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

China aren’t random in context of WWII. They were victims of japan. It’s actually hugely racist to even attempt such a joke with true obliviousness to that ‘detail’.

[–] bizarroland@fedia.io 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It wasn't random, it was intentionally wrong, you dingus.

My dad always said there are people who would bitch even if you hung them with a brand new rope, I guess you're one of them.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Oh, I'd say the dinosaurs are doing pretty well getting their vengeance on the descendants of the prey that usurped them.

Getting really fucking hot out here, isn't it?

blasts car's A/C

Man, that air conditioner really kills my fuel economy, better stop for more gas.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Humans did not unsurp dinosaurs. We didn't come until much, much later.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

We are still the descendants of the rodent like mammals that survived their mass extinction, like little Purgatorius below.

Yes, with a "great" to a high enough power, you'll eventually reach a great, great..(!)..great, great grandparent ancestor that looks something like this:

[–] TotallyNotSpez@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

About time!

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pretty disappointed it wasn't an American craft doing the shootin first.

[–] tibi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Americans slammed the whole probe at high speed into one. I think that counts.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

It only counts if the probe was launched out of a really big gun.
