I expect I'll get some flack from people super immersed into this subculture, but why do people still recommend opening up random files in the backup to make sure the backup actually worked? Why isn't rsync -c or the equivalent sufficient? Personally I only open my backups every once in blue moon. Maybe there's some edge case where rsync checksum itself is faulty or something I guess, but that's not on my list of likely concerns tbh.
