Boyens and screenwriter Phoebe Gittins expanded on Tolkien’s original story. In particular, they wanted to give a certain character her own name.

I don't like this. This sounds like Rings of Power. I mean, I obviously hope I am wrong, but this already sounds bad. Tolkien wrote so much that hasn't been adapted yet, why do we have to keep getting fanfictions instead?

I'm constantly in awe of people's assumptions that Tolkien actually wrote a complete narrative, much less a ready to go to screen script, about anything beyond the Hobbit and LotR.

If you want a movie or game about anything in Middle Earth besides the events of those four books it is going to be an adaptation with a bunch of filled in blanks, and it's going to have to change details because Tolkien's notes are mostly broad strokes history that simply will not make an interesting film.

I definitely used to feel this way, and I haven't seen Rings of Power, so I can't speak to it, but I've been steadily growing more open to the idea of people adapting the setting and building stories within Tolkien's universe.

I saw this news today, but wasn't sure whether this should be "anime" or not. The working definition I have had up to this point is if a title has either an AniList page or a MAL page, then it is good enough for me to be included here. That being said, there are some occasions where posts about a series get made when it is newly announced and those pages don't exist yet. However, this project was announced a year ago and neither site has created a page for it yet.

As far as I can tell, this movie has a Japanese director from the anime industry, but most of the rest of the production is being done by Warner Animation, a US company. I believe the marketing and main voice work has been primarily done in English as well. These kinds of things are likely why a page hasn't been made for the movie yet.

I am open to discussion among members of this community about whether this movie should be fair game for posts or not going forward. I am going to leave this up and see if others have thoughts.

Looks to be a similar case as ATLA and Castlevania

This is the story of the most powerful king in Rohan's history, someone who defeated his enemies with his bare fists,” Kamiyama tells EW. “Why did his lineage have to end with him? I think there is a lesson in hubris there and also for a need for responsibility and awareness in their power.

Sounds like it could be great. And the more succesful LOTR that's made the higher the chance of me seeing my #1 dude Fëanor on screen.
