Most of the time when people say they have an unpopular opinion, it turns out it's actually pretty popular.

Do you have some that's really unpopular and most likely will get you downvoted?

I love these posts where we're hoping for downvotes. I think I'm better at those and i kind of wish all of lemmy was like that.

We need oil gas and plastics. Oil and gas in the short/ medium term (meaning 10-20 years) but plastics potentially for the foreseeable

we have alternative energy sources and so oil and gas should be (needs to be) the priority to wean off of but the scaling up of these needs to be properly managed

Plastics I do not see an alternative to as an end product, however it is possible to use "bio sources" to make plastic precursors so there's a route through there but the scaling is nowhere right now

Single use plastics are a viable target but durable plastics I think are with us for the long term

Humanity is doomed in the short term by its own hand, and that is the absolute best fucking thing that can happen for the planet and the other life on it medium to long term.

We appear to be a self-solving blight upon the natural world. As the late, great George Carlin put it, the planet is ramping up to "shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance."

As a species, we've proven beyond all doubt that we are too malicious to be stewards of this world, and too self-important to ever peacefully, recede in numbers in order to find equilibrium with this world as inhabitants, rather than have dominion over it.

Our macro-cancer ass of a species has got to go.

AI tests in the west for breeding licenses. It’s a matter of time 😎
