I assure you that people all screaming in unison "this car is shit lol" is not providing advertising of the vehicle to anyone. Its only selling point is as a status symbol but the clear status it gives to anyone that owns it is "lol this person is a fucking idiot". This status completely cripples its sales potential and is driven by people posting about it and ridiculing it.
The last thing anyone trying to sell a status symbol wants is for the symbol it represents to be complete fucking idiocy.
