On this day in 1967, the Israeli Army occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip, claiming emergency powers with a military decree that greatly restricts the rights of the occupied. The ongoing occupation is the longest in the modern era.

The Israeli Army action took place in the context of the Six Day War, fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab states. The status of the West Bank as a militarily occupied territory has been affirmed by the International Court of Justice and, with the exception of East Jerusalem, by the Israeli Supreme Court.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), the military proclamation issued by the Israeli Army on June 7th, 1967 permitted the application of the Defense (Emergency) Regulations of 1945.

These regulations empowered, and continue to empower, authorities to declare as an "unlawful association" groups that advocate for "bringing into hatred or contempt, or the exciting of disaffection against" the authorities, and criminalize membership in or possession of material belonging to or affiliated, even indirectly, with these groups.

HRW goes on to state that these and other broad restrictions on the occupied population violate international law: "The Israeli army has for over 50 years used broadly worded military orders to arrest Palestinian journalists, activists and others for their speech and activities - much of it non-violent - protesting, criticizing or opposing Israeli policies. These orders are written so broadly that they violate the obligation of states under international human rights law to clearly spell out conduct that could result in criminal sanction."

Following the military occupation of the West Bank, Israel began expropriating the land and facilitating Israeli settlements in the area, broadly considered a violation of international law. While Israelis in the West Bank are subject to Israeli law and given representation in the Israeli Knesset, Palestinian civilians, mostly confined to scattered enclaves, are subject to martial law and are not permitted to vote in Israel's national elections.

This two-tiered system has inspired comparisons to apartheid, likening the dense disconnected pockets that Palestinians are relegated to with the segregated Bantustans that previously existed in South Africa when the country was still under white supremacist rule.

Reading recruiting tips from recruiters or HR people is peobably valuable because they're the gatekeepers, but also really reveals how they really don't have any sentience. They will actively describe how there is no difference between listing what you do vs listing what you do with random fake numbers inserted and be like "the latter is more impressive". The example was funny because it was a place where the metrics are genuinely not meaningful. I get for sales you want people who make sales. For software engineering, you want people who worked projects at a similar scale. But when the metric doesn't actually distinguish betweem ability or skillset types, who gives a shit?

"You need to show ypu provide business value" why do you think I'm getting paid right now?

All kidding aside, I don't think racism is cool. It doesn't have a place in today's society. We're trying to be better as humans, and we cant do that if we can't get past a thing like racism. It needs to end now. People get hurt every day because of it. It's unacceptable. It's unacceptable in our society and I'm not down with any of that crap. So, if you're down with racism, I'm not down with you.

Xposting from the thread I made in music:

The Ballad of Stalin

I've made a rough attempt at working out chords for guitar

My ear isn't amazing (I used an electronic tuner to help guess chords), and the recording is kinda shonky and weird (its a banjo recording from the 1950s), if anyone has suggestions I'm more than open to them!

C#m                           B               C#m
Joe Stalin was a mighty man, a mighty man was he,
C#m                             B        Ab
He led the Soviet people on the road to victory.
C#m                           B                  F#
All through the revolution he fought at Lenin's side,
C#m                               Ab                C#m
And they made a combination till the day that Lenin died.

(C#m) Joe Stalin was a mighty man, (B) a mighty man was (C#m) he,

(C#m) He led the Soviet people (B) on the road to (B) victory.

(C#m) All through the revolution (B) he fought at Lenin's (F#) side,

(C#m) And they made a combination till (Ab) the day that Lenin (C#m) died.

full lyrics as per prole wiki
He said, "Come all you people, we will work with brain and hand."

And then one day the Nazis came into the Soviet land,

They plundered to the Volga, to Stalingrad, and then

Joe Stalin said, Come on, me boys!" and he kicked them out again.

\

Joe Stalin was a southerner, in Georgia he was born

Where the oranges grow thick and fast and fields of waving corn;

And Joe he was a farmer, his fingers they were green

And he has planted the biggest crop the world has ever seen.

\

One day he looked upon his map and frowned and shook his head,

"There's too much brown and not enough green," these are the words he said;

"We'll have to change the weather, boys," he said and then he smiled,

"So let's begin by planting trees along three thousand miles."

\

Joe Stalin rolled his sleeves up and he said, "Come on, let's start!

The Volga river and the Don they are too far apart.

I think we'd better join them, so come and help me, pal,

And we'll build a mighty waterway, the Volga-Don Canal."

\

One day he went into the North and there saw rivers three

All emptying their waters into the Polar Sea;

"Now that's not right," Joe Stalin said, "these rivers they are ours,

We'll turn 'em 'round and make 'em work to give electric power."

\

There was a range of mountains that was standing in the way

So Stalin put his hand out and he smoothed them all away;

For Joe he was determined to make the land all green

And that's the biggest project that the world has ever seen.

\

Joe Stalin was a mighty man and he made a mighty plan;

He harnessed nature to the plough to work for the good of man;

He's hammered out the future, the forgeman he has been

And he's made the workers' state the best the world has ever seen.

\

My internet keeps bumping off and on again on my machine. I think my router is fucked because it happens on all my devices that use wifi.

Any tips on making your internet better, I have spectrum rn, should I try to switch to another provider or get a stronger router?

Really love how this thing looks. It has 2x spinal mounted 250mm railguns that fire kinetic shells at a measly 2,000m/s, 2 spinal lasers, a 400rpm 62mm anti munition turret in the middle, and missile interceptors on either side below the lasers. Went with a much sleeker, slimmer design than I had expected because I spend a lot on the anti munition systems so didn't have much left over for a big laser weapon. Still, looks hella cool and I think the Stalin decals really make it pop.

I think it's weird that "mother" and "brother" rhyme but the other words for family members don't. I guess "father" is pretty close but "sister" is over there doing its own thing entirely

English was actually invented by people who hated poetry which is why Shakespeare is universally hated among dictionary writers.

I've just finished reading the whole of Hunter x Hunter and

spoilers

the last 80 chapters since the end of the election arc have been unbearable agony-immense

Oh my god, just this fractal regression of side stories and characters, all wrapped up in a truly, utterly miserable atmosphere!!

I cannot imagine the people who've been waiting ten years to find out what's on the Dark Continent, but instead it's been a recursive digression upon digression of these hopelessly tangled political intrigue story threads that lead nowhere, and people getting pointlessly murdered in horrible ways over and over again, in different combinations of mafia and royal soldiers and prince guards and queen guards and the spiders, AAAAAGGH and it's all on the boat ride to the fake new continent, before they even set off for the real one!! This is not the manga of thrilling exploration and combat I was promised! Where are my protagonists?! How many more sets of a dozen new quirky miniboss faces do I have to remember?!! How long until I get to see the fourth prince get his stupid evil face punched in??!! SHOW ME ~~ROCK~~ GON!!!!

Spent like an 45 minutes trying to give aliexpress my money, they made me reset my password, told me to use a different browser, told me to use my phone and now the app is asking for my photo ID and a bank statement from my card to prove its me. Fuck that I'm just not gonna buy anything now

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

The AliExpress site is walking a razor think line between too jank to trust and deals that are too good to ignore

~~The Headless Horseman~~

It's for a music store and it costs $650. If they photoshopped out the hands - it would be perfectly fine. But because the hands are there - it's so off-putting.

Turns out Gregory lives in the house across the street, and his name isn’t even Gregory.

What's up with Australians, why are their vibes so consistently just a little off? Is this some kind of internet filtration thing or would they all be like that if I went there?

[–] Commiejones@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

yeah they are all a little off some for the better some for the worse. I like it... when I don't hate it.

I can't think of much that would hype me gaming wise that would be at Summer Game Fest. Also the industry has been gutted so much that there legit might not be much.
