100% Pompeii. I'd go back to see the rest of it. We were there a few hours. I'd plan on spending a day there.

Rome was cool, so much history to see but Pompeii was #1 for me .

A day in Pompeii... Okay, putting that in.

I had no idea how big of a city Pompeii is. And before I hype it up too much. If I went when I was 20 I probably wouldn't have appreciated it the same as seeing it at nearly 50.

There's just a ton of interesting facts about it. The technology they had , how they handled plumbing, warming their houses, stone streets with raised crosswalks. You can see the wagon tracks worn on the stones in the streets. And standing there looking at it while understanding this was a bustling city 2000 years ago.

I guess seeing "David" was pretty surreal also.

We stayed in Rome near a subway terminal and could walk/train all over the city. Which was fun too.

I'm atheist, however still quite enjoyed walking through the Vatican.

There really is an unlimited amount of things to see there ::)

Mussolini was executed in giulino di mezzegra, that's a great place to start

Matera, Naples, Pompei, Milan, and Turin is worth a day too.

Shroud of Turin is at least from one of those.

If your into Acheiropoieta, it's probably worth seeing. Otherwise go to the Egypt museum and the synagogue/film museum and Kingdom of Italy stuff.

Florence is also definitely worth seeing but touristy and full af but it is an amazing city I was there like 17 years ago. I’ve also heard Rome is a fun place. I haven’t really travelled anywhere in 10 years though so these are just things I’ve heard

We may be skipping Rome, tbh, but that's good about Firenze.

If you can make it up to the Dolomites you definitely should.

Oh, where is that, exactly?

[–] TheWurstman@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s a mountain range in the north east.

That might not be where we're going, but I'll try to make it. Thanks!

Perhaps near Naples?

I have some plans...

San Secondo, Bologna, Venice, Pompeii, and Tuscany.
