badposting is a comm where you post badly

This is not a !the_dunk_tank@hexbear.net alternative. This is not a !memes@hexbear.net alternative. This is a place for you to post your bad posts.

Ever had a really shitty bit idea? Joke you want to take way past the point of where it was funny? Want to feel like a stand-up comedy guy who's been bombing a set for the past 30 minutes straight and at this point is just saying shit to see if people react to it? Really bad pun? A homemade cringe concoction? A cognitohazard that you have birthed into this world and have an urge to spread like chain mail?

Rules:

  1. Do not post good posts.
    • Unauthorized goodposting is to be punished in the manner of commenting the phrase "GOOD post" followed by an emoji that has not yet been used in the thread
    • Use an emoticon/kaomoji/rule-three-abiding ASCII art if the rations run out
  2. This is not a comm where you direct people to other people's bad posts. This is a comm where you post badly.
  3. This rule intentionally left blank.
  4. If you're struck for rule 3, skill issue, not allowed to complain about it.

Code of Conduct applies just as much here as it does everywhere else. Technically, CoC violations are bad posts. On the other hand: L + ratio + get ~~better~~ worse material bozo

MODERATORS

I hate hero worship, it's silly. Especially when it involves a historical figure you have no way of ever meeting that might have secretly been a total douche for all I know.

I know it was the combined effort of the people of the Soviet Union that got the first man into space. It wasn't Gararin alone.

But there is something so damn cool about this guy. Look at this chad. yuri

[WARNING, WEAPONS GRADE BAD JOKE]: You could say I'm gaga for Gagarin. agni-pain

if admiring Yuri Gagarin is wrong, I don't want to be right

No, but look up the story when he was caught cheating with a nurse by his wife and he escaped by jumping off a second floor balcony which left a permanent scar on his left eyebrow. A funny incident that reminds you no one is perfect.

Funny, but also poor wife sadness

Damn, I'll have to read. There's nothing more complicated than, especially romantic, interpersonal relationships... Don't cheat of course but if my man jumped out of a 2nd floor balcony to escape he's either got a crazy flight reaction or he was about to get his ass BEAT.

He's famously not great at getting horizontal velocity (turns out I'm an idiot and I didn't realized he orbited)

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not true, orbit requires mostly horizontal velocity

[–] radiofreeval@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought he did a suborbital hop, I didn't realize he made a full orbit

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

That was Shepard actually, which coincidentally I just learned tonight, I had thought they both did once arounds but nope only Gagarin.

I'm not defending Gagarin being a philanderer but you have to look at him in context: after his flight, he was forbidden from ever flying or going into space again (b/c of his ideological value as the first human in space) and got schlepped all over the world to be photographed and manhandled when he originally signed up to be a pilot and fly. By all accounts, he developed a bit of a drinking problem to cope with the pressure of his new role, and I'm sure that definitely contributed to making bad decisions like this one

This is goodposting. Yuri Gagarin should be a hero to every human. The fact that the first of us to leave Earth, to go from the soil to the stars, was a worker, the son of a carpenter and a milkmaid from the first workers' state, is fucking amazing, and no matter what happens to us as a species, history cannot erase the fact that for a minute, we too could fly, and it was because for a little while, socialism allowed us to stop being animals and start being human beings

I don't think it's necessarily cringe. I always see these folks as representing something greater than themselves, this sort of idea that mankind can transcend any of its adversities and reach for the highest heights. There was a sort of overall optimism people had about the future in the postwar world, of which the success of space exploration was one part. Both sides of the Cold War talked like that and in an era where the people who rule over us have no plan for the future, that kind of rhetoric is very appealing to me because it speaks of a better future. In that vein, I'd count him as my hero too.

I'm gaggin' on Gagarin!

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

The only bad part of this post is using the word cringe. I award you half credit, which is an upvote combined with this terrible comment.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Nah, he was born to make history.

[–] Edamamebean@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

If it's cringe then I'm cringe, I have his poster on my wall

You'd probably like this song by 'Public Service Broadcasting' then - 'Gagarin' - https://youtu.be/wY-kAnvOY80?si=5iZd30dbSuV6qapD

The whole album is made of public broadcast footage of space stuff set to music. My favourite one on the album is 'GO!', though.
