I'd never even heard of her nor seen her picture until a few days ago, so yeah...

Meanwhile, I'm wondering what can be done to ensure that Gina Rinehart sees this image at least once per day, for the rest of her life.

Like what sort of crowdsourced, decentralized campaign would be effective?

Is she on Twitter? Does she have a public email? A bot (like Ben Shortpiro) would work.

A billboard outside her house would do it.

Mrs Rinehart has paid more than $40m in sponsorship to Swimming Queensland and her company has a support scheme which helps pay their wages, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Chalmers and Swimming Queensland chief executive Kevin Hasemann reportedly got together a group of 20 Australian swimmers to campaign against the painting - and another of Mrs Rinehart that hangs in the gallery.

She pays their wages, what's the chance she demanded that they do this?

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Doubtful.

The public backlash if someone leaked the demand would make the little "Hey I dont like this painting of me" news story fade into nothing by comparison.

Fact is for an environment raping mining billionaire she is pretty generous to Australian sports, Im not surprised some athletes are supporting her.

Until they don’t do what she says. Didn’t she drop all the hockey because one aboriginal player objected to playing with a mining logo. Remember, she doesn’t donate. She sponsors. She gets something too.

Never heard of the cunt before this week.

Dropped them because of racist shit her dad said that they didn't approve of. And yeah it was an aboriginal player of whatever Netball is.

[–] LowtierComputer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Her dad said it and when asked, she refused to speak against it.

Good to get some more context there. Thanks for clarifying

give them free prints of the painting as a gift is the correct response.

[–] ZapBeebz_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Nah donate a fresh batch of swim caps with the painting printed on them

Somebody is missing a golden opportunity for T-shirt sales here.

If I lived in Australia, and was confident I could pull a heist, I would totally steal that painting. Its probably super accessible right now. Streisand effect in full swing, it getting stolen would only increase that.

Damn it to hell, I just clicked a sky news link!

[–] ryven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 year ago

Sounds like some sports players want to have their own unflattering portraits painted!

[–] sexy_peach@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago

Imagine being so morally bankrupt to pressure galleries

[–] Minarble@aussie.zone 4 points 1 year ago

Did they confuse doing laps with being lapdogs?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

An Australian art gallery is facing growing pressure to remove a controversial portrait – with some of the country's elite swimmers unexpectedly getting involved in the row.

Mrs Rinehart has reportedly petitioned for the artwork to be removed from the gallery and now, Australian Olympian Kyle Chalmers is one of several sports stars to have backed her plea.

In a statement earlier this week, the gallery said it "welcomes the public having a dialogue on our collection and displays", Australia's ABC News reported.

Australia in Colour also features paintings of the King, the late Queen Elizabeth II and former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard.

The original article contains 449 words, the summary contains 167 words. Saved 63%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

I thought I read in an earlier story that they already agreed to remove it.

Pretty shit painting to be honest, is this some kind of outsider art thing? Can't imagine why these would be in a gallery.

Edit: absolutely fucking called it, how funny.
