The taxi and hotel started out cheap and convenient, that's how they got so popular. But once the ideas caught on they removed the cheap part, and they're working pretty hard on removing the convenience now too.

Blue sky does have the advantage of letting you bring in your own algo for the feed, I'm not sure whether thay means you get to make tweaks on the weights or fully bring in your own recommendation engine tho. But yeah beyond that not sure I see how it's "better" than all the other bullshit.
