The Nakba, commemorated annually on this day as "Nakba Day", was the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948 following Israel's creation. Nakba Day protests take place around the world and have been attacked by Israel.

The foundational events of the Nakba took place during and shortly after the 1947-1949 Palestine war, including 78% of Mandatory Palestine being declared as Israel, the exodus of 700,000 Palestinians, the depopulation and destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages and subsequent geographical erasure, the denial of the Palestinian right of return, and the creation of permanent, stateless Palestinian refugees.

Although May 15th had been used as an unofficial commemoration of the Nakba since 1949, Nakba Day was formalized in 1998 after Yasser Arafat proposed that Palestinians should mark the 50th anniversary of the Nakba during the First Intifada.

The Nakba was a key event in the development of Palestinian culture and is a foundational symbol of Palestinian identity, along with "Handala", a ten-year old cartoon character developed by Naji al-Ali; the keffiyeh, a checkered black and white scarf worn around the head; and the "symbolic key" (many Palestinian refugees have kept the keys to the homes they were forced to flee).

On Nakba Day 2011, Palestinians and other Arabs from the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria marched towards their respective borders, or ceasefire lines and checkpoints in Israeli-occupied territories, to mark the event. At least twelve Palestinians and supporters were killed and hundreds wounded as a result of shootings by the Israeli Army.

"In resisting the Nakba, the Palestinians have struck at the heart of the Zionist project that insists that the Nakba be seen as a past event. In resisting Israel, Palestinians have forced the world to witness the Nakba as present action; one that, contrary to Zionist wisdom, is indeed reversible." - Palestinian scholar Joseph Massad

Dumb idea: Bertilak de Hautdesert/The green knight as a wild west gunslinger He walks into town with a revolver in one hand and a flask of whiskey in the other. He offers each would be gunslinger one free shot, but if he lives they will duel at high noon. He then judges how they spend the day preparing for their death.

i love having to relearn muscle memory on my favorite fight game using the dualsense because they've pretty much discontinued the dualshock 4 very cool very fun love dropping bread and butter combos regularly

I cannot even fathom the dullard mentality required to message someone in response to a personals ad and say nothing other than "hey" or "hello" like what are you on???

I think we need to make normal true crime acceptable in leftist spaces as a lesser evil to the kind of shit you end up with if people have to justify their interest as revolutionary research instead.

:::spoiler CW: Liberals talking about assisted suicide

I wasn't sure I fully agreed with Hexbear's stance on assisted suicide until I saw a thread about a 29 year old killing herself because of mental illness, filled with upvoted comments like "This. Is. Awesome." or "I hope assisted suicide becomes more common. For everyone." or "This is also a whole lot less traumatic than people committing suicide. Nobody wants the last memory of their loved ones to be the scene of their (potentially messy) suicide." while at the same time, someone got banned for posting, "I'm going to stop a young person from killing themselves just to watch you cry."

A policy that can get rid of pesky malcontents and disabled people, which is possible to be framed to/by libs as "clean" and "humane" should set off every warning bell there is.

Update: Caring about human life is apparently "the same vibes" as being anti-abortion.

Family history stuff is really cool if you can go back pretty far. Looking at the dates and country of origin, it's almost certain that my great great whoever had to cross the ocean because landlords at the time had raised rent so high that it caused a wave of emigration. Unfortunately for them, communism hadn't been invented yet...

As someone from neither the UK or USA looking at this Lucy Letby thing, it does seem very likely that the UK state is scapegoating a woman instead of admitting the NHS was underfunded/understaffed/undertrained/undersupplied to the point of doing social murder on a bunch of children, AND Americans with their carceral system, death penalty etc are also throwing stones from a glass house. Like it can be both.

I had the misfortune of leaning about the β€œfluffy pony community.” I know this is judgmental of me, but I would never leave anybody who liked that sort of thing alone with any animals or small children.
