The Nakba, commemorated annually on this day as "Nakba Day", was the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948 following Israel's creation. Nakba Day protests take place around the world and have been attacked by Israel.

The foundational events of the Nakba took place during and shortly after the 1947-1949 Palestine war, including 78% of Mandatory Palestine being declared as Israel, the exodus of 700,000 Palestinians, the depopulation and destruction of over 500 Palestinian villages and subsequent geographical erasure, the denial of the Palestinian right of return, and the creation of permanent, stateless Palestinian refugees.

Although May 15th had been used as an unofficial commemoration of the Nakba since 1949, Nakba Day was formalized in 1998 after Yasser Arafat proposed that Palestinians should mark the 50th anniversary of the Nakba during the First Intifada.

The Nakba was a key event in the development of Palestinian culture and is a foundational symbol of Palestinian identity, along with "Handala", a ten-year old cartoon character developed by Naji al-Ali; the keffiyeh, a checkered black and white scarf worn around the head; and the "symbolic key" (many Palestinian refugees have kept the keys to the homes they were forced to flee).

On Nakba Day 2011, Palestinians and other Arabs from the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria marched towards their respective borders, or ceasefire lines and checkpoints in Israeli-occupied territories, to mark the event. At least twelve Palestinians and supporters were killed and hundreds wounded as a result of shootings by the Israeli Army.

"In resisting the Nakba, the Palestinians have struck at the heart of the Zionist project that insists that the Nakba be seen as a past event. In resisting Israel, Palestinians have forced the world to witness the Nakba as present action; one that, contrary to Zionist wisdom, is indeed reversible." - Palestinian scholar Joseph Massad

A client I used to work for at my previous job has reached out to me, asking if I could do some freelance work. He's a nice guy with an interesting project and I kind of want to help him. I could also really use some extra money.

But I also kind of don't have the time. I already have a full time job that I'm barely managing to find the time for. I also have small children and a partner who can never pick up the children due to their commute and who can't do much housework due to health issues, leaving it to me.

I could really use some advice on how to handle this situation.

I wish I had a better memory for politics stuff. I encapsulate things so for instance I have extremely concrete opinions about jordan-eboy-peterson but if I were confronted by my roommate recommending him to me, I would have to just kinda act dumb and demure because I wouldn't be able to start to explain why he sucks. Like I don't remember why he got his credentials as a psychologist revoked. Multiply this over every other kubrick-stare crowder-nightmare. Like I can just say "Shapiro is actually a dumbass he just talks fast and with confidence" but then I'd be out on a limb and out of things to say about him.

This is why I keep my power level hidden, honestly.

Spent all day tired at work and suddenly gained energy after work. This unexpected inversion has made it the best day ever.

Cursing my unfortunate habit of picking up hobbies with a low barrier for entry that abruptly get super fucking expensive once you really get into them.

β€œWith the usual stipulations about polls six months out, Biden is behind,” said Jim Kessler, co-founder of the left-leaning think tank Third Way. β€œThey need to be in a better place on the border, crime and inflation to win. They have a story to tell on each and further actions they can take, but they need to get cracking.”

Really makes you think!

I'm embarking on a quest into space. I'm doing something I've never done before. I'm watching Star Trek TOS, start to finish, no episode skipping, not using it as background noise. I'll report my reviews.

daily health complaint check in: still feel like shit. went to the doctor today and they had the audacity to suggest that it was my COVID ppe causing the issues (lol. lmao even) while not wearing a mask themselves. it feels like low blood sugar but no matter what I eat I can't bring it back up. glucose levels normal so it's not diabetes like I suspected. no fever. I'm actually getting concerned.

my friend made me a playlist of t girl music so i checked it out earlier. titled "[My name]'s Mix (Dumbest Girl Alive)". I was kind of hurt because yeah i'm a bit thoughtless at times but i'm not "dumbest girl alive" so I sent them a message saying that i was kind of hurt.

first song on the playlist: "Dumbest Girl Alive" by 100 gecs

the bits are writing themselves

My job description was such a lie I think I can reasonably reject like 90% of the work given to me.

NOT no sign of rain and with my genius deciaionmaking i cant take off the sweater. LAYERS always think in layers. to not dress in layers is the 15th kind of liberalism

You don't want to hear this but the Brits should be praised for marmite. It's the closest they've come to developing a culinary culture of their own, it's nutritious and you can't deny it's packed with flavor (wish they made a version with like a quarter the salt though)
